Pads for Pads was established to address the issue of period poverty in the U.S. and around the globe. We are committed to raising money to provide period products to those in need, to raising awareness of this issue, and to eliminating the stigma associated with having a period.

  • COVID-19 had made period poverty worse?

    Over a quarter (27%) of people surveyed say the COVID-19 pandemic made it difficult for them to access period products.

  • People of color are hit harder by period poverty?

    23% of Black Americans and 24% of Hispanic Americans who menstruate struggled to afford period products in the past year, as opposed to 8% of white people who menstruate.

  • Many states make money off of our periods?

    27 states in the United States are currently taxing period products. Those states make an estimated $120M a year from period products.

  • What a financial burden period products can be?

    42% of people who menstruate have reported struggling to purchase period products. Some are choosing between food and period products.

  • The incarcerated often have to purchase their own period products?

    Only 12 states have laws that require state correction facilities to provide free period products to inmates who menstruate.

  • Period poverty is another struggle that many transgender men and non-binary people face?

    Almost 30% of transgender people live in poverty, and that number gets even higher for transgender people of color.

  • Period poverty can be a barrier to education?

    23% of students in the United States have reported struggling to afford menstrual products and 70% say that the school environment makes them feel especially self-conscious about their periods.
